    Trick in the Dark

An outdoor shot converted to indoors. Does it work at all? If not, what to improve?

GB, what is the difference between on "outdoor" shot and an "indoor" shot? Obviously there is some difference. I feel if you posted a before and after shot, it might help clarify whether it works or not.

I don't think your technical skills are in question, it's more how you have edited the photo.

I like her pose alot, it looks very playful and natural. I am not crazy about the lighting effect. It might work better if you moved the origin of the light effect off the frame so we just see the faded light coming in and not the obviously fake starting point.
i am curious also as to what the original looked like.

Thks for taking a look. Danic, you have a point so here's the before shot and the cropping of it. Gary I tried an adjustment of moving the light farther out of the frame, but not sure it makes it a winner or not. Like you though, I really like her pose here - I just have to find the right usage for it.

I knew this one was probably DOA but like most creative stuff you have to kick things around a bit and see what happens.

I like the composition and the idea you had to try get something out of an iffy image. I think you selected the right part of the image to work with.

For me the problem is that your final image is too dark with not enough contrast and that her face is somewhat obscured (and I think I would like her eyes to be open).
    No, I DON'T need that.

So it's a rescue attempt is it? I think it's worth saving and you're on the right track but the deep gray and purple makes my eyes want to cross. I like you're crop, the original seems much to wide, among the rocks she seems lost and out of place. The sharpness is good and I don't mind that her face is obscured because of the implied motion of her pose. If it were mine, I would definitely make a levels adjustment and would probably convert it to black and white.

    Re: Trick in the Dark

Thanks Greg... Glad somebody likes me work!! As I tell my friends at work though, art has a lot lower success rate than technical stuff. If I hit 1 out of 5... 1 out of 10, I figure I'm beating the average.

Cindy, You got it -- rescue mode (I take it you go there too). Here's the black and white: since I could pull out of it the right amount of contrast and intensity I wanted, I did a few more experiments - my 'last gasp' so to speak (aka the Panic Button). It's only electrons anyways.

MB - I actually want the bg to be very dark so to eliminate any hint of the sky, and also to add a late-night-on-the-town feeling (her attire sure seems to fit that). I also want to show her clearly enough to make her stand out. It's close, but hard to get just the right amount of contrast and intensity to close the deal. File it in the Almost folder.

Well, I've had my fun. I can't seem to get it the way I want, so will put it down for now. Maybe an idea will pop into my head .....

    Enjoy the filter effects.

I still like the original best. I agree with you. I would think this type photography would be the hardest to do.
