You gotta know when to hold 'em...

    10D, 50mm 1.8 lens (just got it from B&H yesterday )

Photo shot at f/2.8, -2/3 EV, ISO 100, 1/125 - Shot with hot lights.

If you're a poker player, this is a helluva hand no matter what's under that chip - but I like the idea that there's a little mystery whether the player actually MADE the full house and has that other ace under there...

what do you think about this shot?

I feel its a good composition and I like the idea here. Dof works well, as it fades out to out of focus. The chips and cards are well laid out and framed up right, I feel. The one thing that I think needs improvement is the levels adj. The image seems dark with no real white or black in it.

I'm not sure that the grayness (and choice of B/W) doesn't lend a feeling that it could be in a smoky backroom of a bar instead of the well lit bridge room at the senior center. Of course you could have made it grainy and contrasty and used aces and eights with a couple shell casings and maybe a shotglass tipped over (probably been done).

I like the mystery in the shot. Well done.

lol, I thought about that as well. But I don't think doing so would lose that atmosphere. The dof and the layout is conveying that somewhat already. Lit cigarrette in an ashtray would be cool too. . . I still like the shot as it is

The "missing card" is an Ace. Red.

Full house. Not bad World Series Of Poker would give you a 90% chance of winning with that hand!

I love the photo. I love the depth of field. The BW is very good as well. I do wish I could have some "critical" analysis, as I believe it's what makes us better at whatever we do, but this one is rather tight.

I think this is a great shot, Andy. Technically exceptional, except that I don't feel the mystery that you and the others do of the card that hasn't been turned over. Perhaps for me it would have had more impact if the card was a bit more within the frame. But other than that I really enjoyed this photo in b/w. Good work!
