Re: Transitions
I like this, it comes across as very graphic. B&W was a good choice for the subject. I'm not sure I like the off white mat though I'm not sure what else would look good. Easy enough to try different colors though.
Thanks for posting.

Re: Transitions
Lovely abstract. I like the way the light form fits nicely in the dark form.

Re: Transitions
drg, this is a well composed abstract of icicles melting. (if thats what it is) I appreciate the soft light shape to the right frame. A great visual piece.
nice work

Re: Transitions
My issue here is only with the presentation. The image is interesting and well done but but the framing doesn't add anything-perhaps a strong black border instead.

Don, GB1, Gary,
Yes it is a monster icicle. I had lots of water running down my neck when I made this one. The photo turned out differently than I'd imagined in terms of what worked regarding contrast and the shapes became more of the compositional focus.
I did not originally intend for it to be as abstract as it turned out. Thanks for the feedback letting me know that it worked.
Joe and MB1,
The presentation is another reason I put this one up for comment.
Does this framing below work better, at least viewed on the web?
The matte does come off on some monitors as being too yellow or gold I imagine. This is one that has been 'soft proofed' and at this resolution I understand may not work for everyone depending upon their calibration and monitor type (crt, LCD, room lighting etc.).
Thanks again for the comments and more are welcomed!
Without further ado a variation -

Re: Transitions
I like this simple and effective presentation better. the thicker border/mat is ok just not the yellowishcream color that at least I am seeing on my monitor.
The image has a sort of illustrated look of it and part of what makes it work in an artistic way

Thanks Gary for your views. This mat color apparently doesn't work or 'bleeds' with Web color restrictions. I've looked at on several monitors after saving for the web and LCD's look worse than CRT's under most incidental light.
Interesting lesson and food for thought.
By the way, it is a profiled color of a Bainbridge cream art mat. They accent well most b/w photos that are either slightly toned or ink jet printed from a color original that has been de-saturated or is mostly gray.
Thanks again.

Re: Transitions
I am viewing through a CRT and am familiar with alot of the cream colored mats.T hey do offset nicely with b&w images that have some tone to them. I am seeing a more yellow color than the cream color I am sure the mat is. It is more an issue with the limited gamut of the web browsers.
