This is real interesting, GB. I would suggest though before doing this HDR, or photomatix effect to this, first select the model carefully and then apply the effect to everything else. Then invert the selection and just apply a mild desaturation and such to allow her to blend in with the sc-fi environment. This way she will have the beauty remain in the surreal setting and not be scarred by the effect. Just my suggestion.
I like this much, but wish she was not so "abused" by the treatment as was everything else around her. Also, when dodging light onto her face use a less featherd brush and smaller tip so as not to lighten the sky around her face making it obvious edit. (if that was the method you used)

Gary and Don, thanks but actually, this image was almost a total loss... converting it to this was like making something out of nothing.

Here's the originals, plus another experiment I did to create a white sky and brighten her up. Gary, I really like your idea -- perhaps I can use her in the white-background image and paste that overtop a modified one. Or do something else like that (!?) I will give it a try. What do you think of the source image? I wish I had used a powerful fill flash.

Don, -- yeah I like to kick things around... straight on photography is fun too, I just like to do other stuff on occasion even if some of it looks strange

I like the source image, the one exposed for the model. your idea of pasting her into the other one after the HDR is fine but you will have to be very precise and then work on her a bit afterward to blend her into the "new environment" somehow.
Or just use the image exposed for the model (with blank sky) and then layer the better sky into that one. that would be real simple and then play a little bit with editing the end image with some dodging of light onto the fg rock and even more effects you if desired.
