Three on a beach
I took this recently on a beach at Wollongong, NSW, Australia, late afternoon.
I want to enter it in a local photo competition here and was wonderin what others thought of it

That water is terrific and the figures give it all a sense of scale. I'll bet the print is fabulous. Is there a theme for the competition?

Tried a few crops and adjusting saturation levels but could not improve on original.Excellent shot, go enter it in the comp.

I would agree that you should enter this photo. It has some problems for me however. I like the saturation and composition- both are good. But it's too contrasty for me. I live on the ocean and I know how insanely hard it is to get really good beach shots. You've done pretty good here, but the contrast might be turned down a few notches. And although it goes against my stubborn anti-Photoshop stance, I would suggest (if the contest will allow) eliminating the smokestacks on the left horizon. They add some ugliness to an otherwise pretty scene.
Those two things fixed, and you've got my vote for best of show!

Thanks for to all for your comments and encouragement.
I took the plunge and entered the photo competition. An open comp on landscape images run by a local photographic club. Some great shots. Anyway the comp is judged 1-10. 1 being very ordinary and 10 being almost perfec. I managed a 9 along with a couple of other entrants and there were only 4 scores of 10 awarded. I am stoked.
I entered the image is is because I really like the colours in the image in the early morning light and the smoke stacks give a little hint of the location, Wollongong, Australia which if anyone knows is a steel producing area. I'll post another image for critique with a little more industral action to see what the reaction is.
Thanks again for your interest.

I think it's an excellent shot. The only thing that might've improved it, is a tighter zoom. To focus in a tiny bit more on the three people, thus cropping out a few of the trees on the left, while maintaining the beautiful colors / shimmery waterline. The peoplel are just small enough relative to everything else that they almost get lost. Win or "lose" (impossible with this shot - you've already won), it's a great moment you've captured.

Beautiful colors, I particularly like how the water looks. I like the "scale" of the people, and I actually like the smokestacks as well as it gives it a sort of realism to it, kwim? Congratulations on getting a 9!!
Take care,
Eva

A 9 !!!!!!!!!!! Brilliant and hope they gave you reasons why it did not make a 10. This way you learn lots.Looking forward to your next posts.

A really great shot! I love the contrast.
It's a shame that such a beautiful landscape has been polluted with such industry. I guess it's a necessary evil, though.
