Thoughts needed

I'd like some opinions on this shot. I was experimenting with the manual settings and Wb and flash on the D70...thoughts and comments and suggestions welcome...
the specs:
f/5.6, 1/500, iso 200, -.03, rear sync flash(is that how you say it?:rolleyes:). set at WB:shade, development:sharp.

I like this but something is bothering me about it and not sure what it is. I was going to say that the bg was to distracting and less dof would be better, but I think I like the bg there and it is framed up nicely. i think what it is are the shadows that are on the flower causing some confusing and distracting shades and lines. I keep having to look at the flower and try to make out the petals but it seems difficult. I just can't express this properly, except that I like the shot but the flower does not seem simple enough for me to really like this. Maybe is the flash causing unusual lighting or something.
