    Is it a distraction?

Does the railing at the top left add to the framing/vanishing point/perspective idea? or is it just a distraction? Other critiques appreciated.

    Re: Is it a distraction?

On first glance I found it distracting. On taking a second look I thought it kinda worked. On imagining the photo without it, I think it would be much stronger.

So my vote is for distraction.

I would have to go with opus on this one, I find it a bit distracting. I think it might work if the railing were straight but with it curved it doesn't feel quite right.

I think if you crop some of the top and leave just a little bit less railing it would help. There is to much space above her head.

Maybe. The only way to tell in this one is to clone it out, and see.

I agree i think without the railing that part of the picture would be really plain, but cut it a little and its perfecto

    Re: Is it a distraction?

What intrigues me about the railing is the way it mirrors the models curvature of the back, but I don't think most would pick that up immediately. I think if you could get that arch on her left side by repositioning, then it would be a very strong element. As it is, I could take it or leave it, not a storng element but not a strong distraction either. I do think you could crop a little off the right and the top to punch up the impact overall though.

    Re: Is it a distraction?

With the composition as it is, I can't decide whether it would look better with or with out the railing. But, I do think the railing could be used to frame the model if you could change your perspective enough to remove some of the space between the rail and the model...if that makes sense. I think there's too much empty space at the top, with or with out the rail.

    Nice shot, overall!

Keep it. I felt the framing effect from the first glance, even before I read your post.

I really like it. It's kinda modern arty-ish.

    Re: Is it a distraction?

My .02: The rail is not really a distraction, but I agree with the above suggestions for cropping. Taking off some of the top will not only remove the excess sky but also some of those brightest highlights on that railing which will serve to subdue the rail and not detract from your model.

I'm thinking that the distraction factor the guys are talking about is a good thing... ;)

    Re: Is it a distraction?

I like what you did with light here, looks like you used a strobe with a diffuser, to your right about 1 foot and about 2-3 feet high?

Anyway, I do think a tighter crop would work better, the pole I dont really think works in this.
