Cute feather ball
But that snow just distract too much IMUO (In My Uninformed Opinion.)
Other than that, the angle does a good job of showing the effectiveness of nature's camo, but then some might argue that it doesn't seperate the birdie enough. Dunno, just throwing stuff out there, hard for me to critique wildlife shots.
Nice to see more of yours though, I would hate to see you put down the camera. :)

Consider it torn..
Good use of the rule of thirds and nice job on the exposure. The shallow DoF really helps to separate the sparrow from its surroundings. Only real gripe is that the birdie could stand to be a bit sharper.
Thanks for posting this one for critique Paul!

Different...
from your usual images, which isn't a bad thing. Good job with the exposure, getting the white snow and good detail on the tucan/robin/canary...you know that I'm bird-stupid. I'm thinking that if the bird were a little larger in the frame, the image would be stronger. Nice work, as always.

Thanks All

I agree, but 1/400th on a sparrow feeding was to slow... they scratch, jump, hop, bounce, headbang..... only time it stopped was when it was obstructed by the snow.....GRRR
BTW.. it's a SONG SPARROW Mr. Hess  hehehe

Couldn't agree with you more...before you always wondered who the junkies were and now you know for sure!
I can't even take a pic of a sparrow--but my 2 cents-
Way bright light(lost detail in the snow and it makes the grass look flourescent)
I like the little guy and he has good colors but maybe cropping some foreground(blurry) and background...
not a whole lot to say in technical terms...but glad to see you posting pics---you nee to show us more stuff :D

new qouting style
still trying to get used to this stuff---lol check out my new quoting style --hehe

we call that brightness....NOON in my neck of the woods! snow IS NOT blown(if it were my highlight blinky would have blinkied on my 1D..or whatever that cheater mode's called ) and i did add too much saturation maybe(+10)? i do agree that it's a little too bright over all, but usually when i post they darken up here ;)
posting isn't the problem.... time to shoot is though
as for knowing when i'm on.... i can reregister with a lurker ID my friend ;o

No need for another ID - anyone can set themselves to "invisible" mode. It's an option on our profiles. I think it may look like I'm logged on when I really have the browser window minimized for hours and hours, so I'm not really there even though the site says I am. Oh well.
As for your shot, I think that with the rather busy background a tigher crop on the bird would be better. I know, I know, you don't like tight crops. But that's mho. It looks like you pissed the little bugger off, its squawking at you. :)
