    Re: Taxidermist

I like it Pete. Maybe cropped a touch to tight on the right side. I think a color edit might work as well showing the character of the old sign. Nice find.

I like it too. I'm a cropper so I would cut some sky and the fence on the left of the frame. nice tones in the B&W conversion. If this was a taxidermist which stuffed birds and animals, as it says on the door, then why is there a human mannaquin head in the front window??? Did Bates own this place. Interesting.
    Nice capture.

    Re: Taxidermist

Thanks Greg it is a bit tight on the right but there was the tail end of a car there that had to go

Ed, you will have to enlighten me on who bates was.... Thanks for the comments.

The human head displayed in the taxidermists was what grabbed me with this one.

Nicely done, Pete, processing and all. I might like to see it in color, too, and am wondering the tightness of the crop, but overall, it's great.

I spy the head from your other photo. Haha, looks great though. I like old, neglected things in black and white.

Norman Bates was the antagonist in Alfred Hitchcock's 60's horror classic "Phsyco". He stuffed his mother after she died; talked to her, and at times he 'was' her. He kept her remains in his old house on the hill behind the infamous "Bates Motel". He murdered a bunch of people and hid their bodies in a swamp behind the motel. One of the greatest physcological thrillers ever. IMHO

This is fine stuff, Pete. I agree with Greg about the room on the right and seeing it in color. Sweet find and nicely done.

    Re: Taxidermist

Ah this is where that mannequin head is I see. lol. Definitely looks vintage. Did you get any at a perpendicular angle, or a more extreme angle? Very cool arrangement of lines but it feels like it ends rather abruptly on the left side of the image. My eyes begin to look for a vanishing point when there are these sorts of converging lines, but there isn't any sign of any point of vanishing.

*edit - just read other critiques. In my opinion, I am already a fan of the right side crop and think it should be left as is, I think the left side opening will make it feel more complete. I guess waiting for the car to leave wasn't an option lol.

    Re: Taxidermist

Thanks guys you've given me a bit to think about here, maybe I do tend to over do the B&W thing but perhaps thats just me . The car moved off shortly after this and I have others so perhaps I should rethink this.

    Re: Taxidermist

Looks like you and I have an eye for similar places Pete - old beat up joints I love em. They have so much character. Anyway, I think it looks OK in black and white but I want to see the color version too. Also, it seems to have a slightly jagged look - processing? Could be sharper and cleaner in that respect. Anyway.... cool little spot.

OK , this is the colour version
Thanks GB, there is no shortage of interesting old buildings down here, the trick is to resist getting too focused on them ,as it were.....
