Tasha-Ray Evin of rock band, Lillix

I got this shot Lillix a couple years back when they played outdoors in the parking lot of a Vancouver mall but only liked the guitar player in the image and I thought it'd be an effective image if I made a crop with just her in it. Here's the cropped and original images, what do you guys think. Thanks for any feedback.

The crop is better, even if just for the fact that the keyboardist does not have her face covered.

IMO this doesn't really work, the reason being that the guitarist appears to be concentrating very hard on the job at hand and she doesn't appear to be too comfortable with it! When these kinds of images work (for me) it is when there is more of a sense of movement and confidence in the artist's expression. The shot obviously has documentary value and I agree that, of the two, the crop works better.

I agree with Herriot. The ones that stick out the most to me would be something like AC/DC's guitarist gritting his teeth, or James hetfield in his stance (long hair days) with that intense look on his face.

Thanks guys for the feedback. For this particular image, there was just something about the pose I liked but for rock shots I also like to see the intensity too.

The best kinds of concert photographs are the ones where there is some kind of interaction with the musician and the audience/photographer.
Like in the one of the guy from Chilliwack, even though you cut off part of the guitar you had that interaction in it.

Right on, thanks Brian. I was just going through a bunch of my photos yesterday to clean up my hard drive a bit and actually I was picking out a lot of the ones with just the interaction you just mentioned.
