The Colosseum - Selective Colour (Bring barf bag) ;-)

holy artifacts batman. too much on the way?

lots of pp, i think that shows from the amount of noise i have here. original is pretty smooth, the channel mixer step in my pp left all these artifacts. also, the reduce noise didn't help. lol. added more!

    all critique appreciated as always.

Love it! The b/w with the Colosseum in color is brilliant. The only rough spot that I can see is the lower left corner, in particular, the vehicle under the tree and the structure all the way to the left. But that is a pretty small complaint.

What about recolorizing the guy at bottom center taking a photo. This would send any wandering eye right back to the colosseum. - Terry

Hey terry, i like the idea but he was wearing black. lol. i'll still try it out and see if any of the minute colour in home would make a difference from that distance. thanks!

    Hmmm.

Not too bad, but the composition seems off to me. Maybe there's too much negative space at the bottom? Regardless of anything else though, it is a fascinating image on its own merits.

But what I think really hurts it is that there are just so many 'objects' in the photo. I really like the fellow taking the picture but wish he was bigger in the frame. I think the lamp post or whatever to the right of him, however interestingly shaped, is a distraction. The big tree on the bottom left doesn't help. The structure (ledge?) on the far left adds another geometric that may overload the photo already full of objects.

Overall, artistically, I just think there's probably one or two too many 'things' in the photo for it to really work. But at the same time, I do think it's a powerful image that is a keeper.

    Leels,

I think you did a really great job with selective color, composition. I have a similar shot, from almost the identical position and given the urban setting of this marvel, there just isn't much you can do without changing the real conditions that exist. I think you did a very nice job.

I am really not a fan of selective coloring I think maybe a little of a fad gone by, I guess. With that said as two seperate items I love it. The B&W portion is killer as with the colossem and the color portion. I also wish the light poles were not there....
