    Cats Eyes

My cats Dagny (black one) and Phoenix were pensive this morning and looked like they were posing for me (lol) so I grabbed my camera and shot. Unfortunately (I think), I had the 70 -300mm Canon IS (at 70mm) on the camera and I'm not sure how to use the macro on it yet. This is the best out of the bunch I took. I was about maybe 5 or 6' away and forced the flash. Very little cropping. What do you think?

Because of how dark it is, the first image is really striking. The second image is fine but pales in comparison to the first.

Print them big (the bigger the better), hang them on the wall.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Cats Eyes

I actually like the second one better. I think the fact that the flash reflected off of the black fur is kind of distracting. Taking pictures of black animals is hard IMO. We have two black dogs and I can never seem to get it right.

Anyway, I really like the second - and I think the little bit of his tail that is curled around by his head adds to it.

Second one, there's blur on the whiskers.
First one is great, I love the eyes in the black fur.
Flash highlights on the fur aren't too bad.

The second cat is missing half his whiskers
I like the first one, and I'm with Wombat that the flash highlights are minimal enough to add definition without distracting.

Hey, thanks everybody! It's nice to come home after a long evenings work and find some kind and helpful words here. You ROCK.
Phoenix's does have wiskers on that side (proof is in the blurry pic), its just that she was rubbing around and when she turned her face straight from her right, her wiskers got flattened by her paw there. So they're just pushed flat. It does look strange though.

Very sharp shots! I do prefer the first shot, it seems quite menacing!

    Re: Cats Eyes

I prefer the second. The eyes are right striking it the first on the dark background. The colouring of the second cat is quite lovely and I'm liking that the tail is in the image. It adds to it and makes it seem less posed, IMO. Both are quite sharp and wonderful though.

    Re: Cats Eyes

Thanks! I think I will print them both up and hang them somewhere. Now I just need simular shots of my other two. Oh, and it's not her tail; its her paw.

    Re: Cats Eyes

I could tell it was the paw, because of the direction of the fur.
    How's this for menacing ?
