Re: Sunset, and MoonRising over Plum Beach

Gary its a very strong photo here. Good blend of color ,realy like the rays of the sun hitting the clouds and with such great detail.I have one critique and its a small one and its probably only a preference of mine ,its the lake or the river it appears almost to glacial for me but that`s just me . I probably should not have said anything , but i feel honesty is always best in life . I hope i am not offending you here because im not realy of caliber to critique your photo. But still a excelently composed photo, well done .

Wow, really good photo. I like how you got the moon to be so big.

    I feel like..

It kind of makes me feel like going camping....
    ;)
Seriously though, it's a good photograph.
I like how you set it up, with the setting sun on one side of the frame and the rising moon on the other. You did a good with that or were just lucky. Probably a little of both?
The clouds work well with the composition in that they provide a interesting line and provide a little summetry and or balance. The colors are good too, I like how it fades from yellow to dark blue/black.
Was the double exposure done in camera?
It's good to see you around Gary, I haven't seen you around lately.
Thanks for commenting on my recent posts!

Wow Gary, Warm and cold at the same time!
the trees work well to keep it from being too hot. Nice touch.
A lone silluette might add to the blue mood, a couple to the warm mood.
Just fan flippin' tastic as it is though!
    Print it big!

    Dear Gary,

Very nice as usual. The gradation from the blue to yellow is very well done. The bottom part of the photo seems wasted to some extent, but I hardly seem to notice it. I will say that, I don't like the moon quite so large. I know it is impressive, but seems a tad overdone. Sorry, very beautiful, but, ahem, well, erm...

This is extraordinary! Very strong and vibrant - but the lake comment - I understand what they are saying - it's a little flat although I see texture and little lapping waves if I look hard, but they are washed out. Maybe darkening shadows will make them appear a little more in some spots. Doesn't need it a lot though.

Re: Sunset, and MoonRising over Plum Beach

    Thanks all for your comments.
Knight. . .You need not feel that way as it is very appropriate for you to tell me what you think, as this is why i post in the critique forum. Your thoughts are worthy for anyones pics, and i appreciate your time to give me yours. I know what you mean about the glacial look. This exposure was several seconds as I used a 100 speed film that i was finishing up a roll from earlier in the day. Personally, I'm fine with the look of the water, but I'm glad to know how you and others feel about it, as well as other aspects of the shot.
    Thanks
Brian, this was one a several double exposures taken. however, I took the better looking moon from one of them and replaced the original moon in this scene, so technically, this is a composite.
thanks for your analysis of the elements. Here is another scene from that evening which is a true in camera, double exposure.
Drew, I appreciate your thoughts on this and your feelings on the scale of the moon.

    Gary,

Love the photos, perfect colours, composition and envyous, and the sea looks perfect to me - only critique is the moon rising in the West?

Also like the second photo you posted - excellent work

Excellent concept as usual. I really enjoy the surreal atmosphere that you create in your photos, especially of late.
I really like the colors and composition of the first photo. I do think you went a little too large on the moon. It seems too digital to me, like I know you put that moon there.
The second photo is my favorite out of the two because everything seems a little more to scale. Both photo have great color & composition, however this photo is more believable and is easier on my eyes (mind ).
    Nice job...
    Cheers.

    Right On Gary.
What inspired you to do this anyway? What is your intent for this new work?

    Roger, PlantedTao, Brian. . .thanks.
Brian, I think I am just challenged to get some good moon shots with double exposure techniques. I do have another theme i may be working on soon called " dire straights" which is pretty much about strange, ominous perhaps gloomy side of things type. Not an original concept by any means, but will have a go at it. I am looking to include a few moon shots in this theme and will post one that i have in mind, called " Do Not Enter" Anyway, thanks as always for looking and sharing your views.

Re: Sunset, and MoonRising over Plum Beach

I haven't read the other posts yet. My take is that it's a beautiful shot but that the moon should be a little smaller, for to me it looks a little larger than possible. If you were to get a shot of the moon this big then it would be near imposs to get the foreground that wide, that is... Try half that size. The color is very very nice.................

Great as always Gary Love both shots. although I prefer the first over the second. Has the "from with in" series ended? I was extremely busy for the last while and haven't come around much.
