Sunset Cliffs II

Some more scanned images of a place called Sunset Cliffs in San Diego. On two of them I wanted the blur, so I used a slower shutter (there wasn't much I could have done about it anyway, using 100 ASA film..). How does it look?

I really like that second one. The motion contrasted with the rocks is great as are the colors. My only quibble would be the brightness of the bottom right, but that's minor to me. I'd love to be able to take a shot like this.

the second one for me is the dogs danglies..

would a crop a bit off the bottom change it too much.. ??

the first is nice but doesn't do much for me but when i scrolled down i thought WOW...

superb (remember though i have an untrained eye :D )

the third is okay and to me better than the first but the second one...

well i agree, i only WISH my photos turned out like that..

Ditto on #2. Great capture of motion. The lighting is also really good. Nice shooting.

I like all 3, but the third shot is by far my fav. The whole scene just has a very dreamy, ethereal feel to it. The motion blur is just right creating a couple nice highlight point without taking away from the rest of the scene. If you wanted to get real picky, you could do without the people in the extreme upper right corner. I'll have to pick up some of the VS to try out against the GX.

The second photo is good, particularly nice movement of the water.
The first one is just plain ordinary, nothing special.
The last one has the backlit figures too far out of focus, the focus is in the mid ground.

Thanks for the reviews. Looks like most people prefer # 2. Funny, cause it wasn't one that I would have expected. I thought that the bright area on the bottom right might ruin it - I guess it's forgivable.

Aaron, I also like the color of # 3 and yeah, I can see where the person(s) on the upper left might be a distraction. If only the one fellow in the upper middle is there, it seems more like he's 'reflecting' in solitude. But there's still the folks below him (guess I could PS them outta there too :) )

'twas something about # 2 that made me go WOW !!!

i don't know enough about depth etc. but those rocks jumped out.

actually i really looked closer tonight and it looks as though the rocks really have gold in them thar hills !!

I have no problems with the other people on the lower rocks. Just seemed like the ones in the upper left were a little cramped in the frame. No PS on film :p :D :p

GB, i think the first could have benefited from some sunset color.... coz as is it just is a "location scouting" type of shot!

The second, is truly beautiful, the highlights at the bottom express more movement.... the attack of the waves... D-day at Normandie... all of it... the colors...etc....

The third i believe is the most difficult to critique... for one, the top left people are tightly cropped and i think this is what would have been better....if they were not cropped so tight... that would have made such a difference.... The slow shutter is fine...although a bit slower i think would be better.... The main issue here, would be as Paul said... the focus is in the mid-ground.. or at least for me it seems to be there too... the rocks could have benifited from a sharp focus compared to the soft motion of the water...

That being said... The third wins me over due to the emotions and as Aaron said, the dreamy and ethereal feeling of it!

3L, I doubt there's gold there :) I know walking around those rocks is slippery, so they probably have films that reflect all sorts of colors. Maybe I'll try another shoot of it this week, it's right near where I work.

Aaron, agree, it's really those upper left folks that need to go. But I can still PS it since I've scanned it to a jpeg. A project for later. :)

Marc, # 1 is a bit cool. I initially felt it was the best of the bunch because of it's relaxing colors and curvy water shape, but I guess it is sort of plain. It's interesting how others see your shots sometimes, see thinks you miss etc. You're right on # 2 - it does look like Normandy. # 3, I believe you hit it on the head -- it is too tight a crop on the top. I guess the action is in the middle but I'm not sure whether only the middle is in focus - it's not a really clear shot and so much is lost in shadows, I can't really tell what's in focus and what isn't :( Too much contrast I guess.
