really hard to distinguish there is actually something in the image

the light pattern, and the fur pattern match, making it complicated to distinguish the dog

I agree armando, and like it because of that.
It is a great contrast to the usual well it pictures of solid colour dogs I see so often.
This is a real challenge to the eyes, to even find the dog.
And I like it that way
It's neat the lines on the pavement almost mirror the rule of thirds in the image, well placed.

I'm thinking a slightly tighter crop from the right and perhaps from the bottom might remove some of the doubt of what the image actually is.

At first glance I didn't like it but SmartWombats point is really well taken and the image has grown on me.

    A keeper.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I agree, crop a bit from the right will take the vagueness out of the shot. Nice shot tho - more artsy than a straight candid image. Make the viewer work for the scene rather than just "here is a dog" ...

I prefer it uncropped. At first I found it hard to read, the bright whites distracting and confusing, but then I realized what I was seeing. It reminds me of one of Bev Doolittle's camouflage paintings. I love it! Well done!
