    Summer solstice

This was taken from the summer solstice marker at hovenweep National Monument on the summer solstice this year (june 21). sun rise was awesome and only a little bit of the sun hitting the petroglyphs was blockd by these clouds.

what do you guys think? i have my thoughts, i want to see if they match yours.

Beautiful. Good job on the exposure.

The second shot, I think you can trim some of the the black area at the bottom.

I love them both. You've got excellent colors. I wish you had less trees in both the photos. They take sooo much away from the awesome sky.

    Re: Summer solstice

thanks you guys for the critiques,

devin, that was the fault i founnd, especially with the first one, i feel that the tree on the left ruins the shot. unfortunantly since i was there to shoot the solstice marker i could not get up from the spot i had picked or i would have lost it to reframe for these pictures.

    Re: Summer solstice

Terrific shot, the colors, the sun rays all very nice. I don't have too much trouble with the trees (second shot is the better of the two) as there is always a frame to every shot. Nice capture, exposier seems to be right on.

    Re: Summer solstice

thanks, as far as the exposure goes, i snapped a TON of pictures- cause all i was doing was sitting waiting fo rthe sun to rise and hit the pictograph- so i played around with th exposure compensation from -2 to 0 and then simply had to choose the best one :-) this one probbably had a - 2/3 or -1 exposure comp, and then metered on the clouds in p mode.
