Hi - of these, I much prefer the first with the gulls. The composition looks reasonable and the gulls are nice and clear against the water and grey sky. It looks like you are right in there!

The second image is really rather ordinary I think. It might have been better had the curl on the far left been in a more prominent position.

Nice as the composition of the wave is, I think it might he better with less birds?
Lose the 3 gulls in front of the wave, keep that cormorant.

The first is great, though I might agree with Paul on the birds.

Also looks a little oversharpened to me; the white halos around the closest gull and some of the others is a little bothersome - makes the gulls look as though they were comped in.

    Fantastic image, otherwise.

Second one is good, too, of course, but nowhere near as captivating as the first.

I agree with Paul as well but still a very good shot. Maybe get rid of a few gulls and it would improve on an already nice picture.

I enjoy seeing the mountain and volcano in the background of the first one. Otherwise, very nice without being very interesting.

i also agree, the 1st one is the winner here. try to clone out a few birds out and keep a minimum number, i think that'll strenghten it.

for the record, i really like the 2nd one also. the crashing wave and mist are greatly captured. the only problem with this one is that it's captured head on, so it's a bit flat for the eyes. only has dimensions in the X-Y axes, not much in the depth (Z) axis

The one with the gulls for sure is my favorite. You have caught the wave breaking and the gulls both against the sky and the water.

    Good job

    Re: Stormy sea

That first one is scary looking! Must be my slight fear of the water. I agree that it would be a superior shot w/o the birds in front of the waves, but I don't think it's fatal... I just wish they were sharper. For that reason this shot is something like a 7 or 8 out of 10 instead of a 10/10 that it would be w/o the birds there.

The bottom shot is also OK but the direct angle you took it at isn't as artistic as the top image.

    Re: Stormy sea

I really like the first one. The waves are right at their crest! My only suggestion would be to somehow add some contrast between the sky and the water (if possible). Both currently look very similar in tone. The mist off the top of the waves is somewhat lost in the sky. A little extra contrast between the two would work well.
