Re: Storm on the Salt Flats
Jim,
The clouds just seem too blown out, and the overall shot too blue for my liking. Is that the way you intended it? If so, then I stand corrected.:D
I'm not sure what to make of the bottom shot, either. It doesn't seem that there's a focal point. Perhaps if you'd gotten lower and gotten more of the horizon behind the dog, it would have had a more balanced look to it. JMHO.

Re: Storm on the Salt Flats
The "blown out" part is actually the sun, barely shielded by a thin cloud. Yeah, it's super blue, but once I enhanced the sky a little, it was obvious that the picture had been post-processed, so I thought "what the heck, just make it super vivid". :)
As for the focal point, getting down low is a great idea, I'll try that next time. I shot this at 10mm, so there really isn't a good focal point...
Thanks for your suggestions and critique!
Re: Storm on the Salt Flats
I too think that the bright spot in the sky hurts the shot. There is also such a clear split between the sky and ground that they seem unrelated. I'm not sure how you resolve that since that's what the world is like in those areas. I do like the dog in the shot along with the grasses and ground in the bottom half.
