I really really like this image. But in your conversion, you lost the detail in the straw plates (or chargers, or whatever they are) and that cloth's detail went too dark. I played around with it a tad (and keep in mind that as usual I did this without really working out the details) but here's a version that kept a bit more of the detail

I like it. I much prefer the color version though, as all of the reds and natural hues go nicely together...including with the bricks.

    Payne

I like the composition you have here.

I prefer the colour but would like a bit more DOF - the squash type jar thingy looks a tad soft on my monitor.

    Hello Payne
The original B/W is for me the nicest but perhaps could do with just a little work in selected areas.

    Re: Still life

The colour version works better than the black and white. Black and white needs to be done first in raw format and then carefully post-processed for tonal qualities and good punch. The pattern of the tablecloth conflicts with and distracts from the patterns in the other objects in terms of composition. In terms of lighting a reflector would have softened the shadows and brought out more detail. Considering the emphasis is on pattern and shape, sharpness needs some work as well. Sorry to sound so critical. Ronnoco

    Re: Still life

The photo has interesting components, and I mostly like the composition. But to me, the angle you took the photo from just doesn't work (a shot of a table with one of the corners at the bottom, I don't know if that could work, imo..). Perhaps you had no choice here since you said that you had to take it from a window. Just a rough angle to deal with.

As far as the color vs b&w: Hmm.... Seems an even split to me... the colors of the objects are nice and it seems a shame to lose them, but the bw version is also nice - looks vintage actually, like a snapshot back in time to the 1800s or something. The brick was really really adds to the Bw shot.
