    Composition wise, the first is either too close or too far from your subject.
    The water on the rock seems to be your subject but it blends in too much with the rest of the pic.
    I like the second one a lot. I don't know what can be done about the sun being a bit over bright and the purple spot but someone here probably does.

    After the event, very little can be done about the sun and the purple spot.
    While shooting, either carry black matte card and sticky tape to improvise a longer lens good to keep the sun off the lens, or use your hand.
    Assuming you're using a tripod and remote release and can look from the up-sun side to make sure your hand shadow stops the light on the lens that causes the flare.
