Strange looking wall, but great for a creative photograph.

Not bad at all.. I like the colors, detail and the woman in the photo. Some people dislike people in their shots, saying it ruins the photo. I tend to disagree except for remote landscape photos.

Anyways, some ideas to improve this photo:

    * take it at another angle. Sorry, but I really don't care for the one you used :( ... it looks too tilted and kinda confuses me. It's actually titled in two dimensions.. Where am I ?

    * although it is reasonably sharp, it somehow isn't: there's a lot of detail in the bricks etc, but something doesn't look sharp to me (?) If you used a sharpening tool in PS or related, those can sometimes make a photo's contrast look a little exagerated somehow (for lack of a better description). That could be the case here (not sure if you used such a tool)

    * the black frame looks OK, but gives the photo a slightly 'downer' feel. The woman isn't jumping for joy but she doesn't look depressed or anything, so not sure why it has a thick black border (often associated with a obituary). Maybe a different color would be better.

I think this wall is worthy of a series of photos.

The tilting is a tad off for me, but the colors definately work. I don't mind the sharpness, I enjoy it and this picture works for me (minus the tilting).

GB1, I know I usually use a black frame around my pics when I display them simply for ease of framing. I didn't know this was considered for obituary or death...I notice alot of people using it now, am I greatly misusing it?!

    Hey Jarad -

Absolutely... a black frame is a mourning sign for someone dying. Seems people are using it in creative ways these days, which is good, but ya gotta be aware that some still view it that way. It goes way back..

    Thanks for your comments everyone.
I, GB1, like Jared, was unaware of this too. I usually tend to stayaway from coloured borders and simply keep them in blacks and whites. Thats interesting, and i never would have imagined that something as common as a black frame could pertain to such a specific mean, but hey, you learn new stuff all the time.
    Thanks again for your feedback.

    Hi there,

So you where in my home town while I was in yours not so long ago. Where have you spent your time? And where was this shot? (interesting location).

I like the colors although the boost in saturation isn't subtle. There is a strange dichotomy betwen the woman and the street: it looks like she doesn't belong there and it create an interesting tension as I see it. I can't say if the angle help the picture or not but I do not mind it. It looks fine to me.

About the black border, I personally use them all the time for their neutrality as I feel that they basically work all the time but that's just me.

    I enjoy your picture

    regards

    Hi Seb
As this picture was appearing on my screen I was sure it was going to be yours. Aren't the colours so similar to some of your recent postings? The brick, the greens etc. I nearly swore it was the same building.

BTW Toronto; I think it's a great picture.

There is a certain similarity but the buildings that I have recently shot are most likely fairly older than this one. The bricks used on this wall are relatively newer. The colors treatment is different too with what appears to be a saturation of the entire picture rather than selective saturation as I tend to do.

Hey Seb, and thanks for the comment.
Most of my time was spend about a 20 minute drive outside the downtown. I couldnt tell you where exatctly, but i can sure tell you by bus.
This was shot on st catherines towrds that large sex shop. Haha, i know in MTL, that doesn't narrow it down much. I know i am having PS trouble, i'm rather new, and don't tend to use it that often.
I did however, notice the saturation cluein the backside of her shoes, but hoped it would not be so obvious.

Over, thanks for your comment too!
