Here is another to what seems to be a series. My kids love these things. The wind was blowing very hard and I had to stick the old tripod in the mud to keep it steady. This was shot at 100iso, 60sec, f/4.5.

I love it, Greg! The cloud streaks really add to the overall image. Why such a long exposer though; 60 seconds? What is the light source coming from the right off camera? Nice job!

Very dynamic shot. The long exposure made the clowdy sky dramatically streaked, and the darkness of the background really gave the equipment contrast and separation, kind of like the flash-fill tricks an old photographer friend used a few times to get into National Geo. This is really exceptional work.

I love how well exposed the machine is even after such a long exposure, it must've been nicely and dimmly lit to begin with. I also enjoy the movement of the clouds there, it gives the sky depth and a sense of perspective.

Thanks everyone, David it was quite dark here. That is why the 60sec exposure. There was a little light on the back hoe, from behind camera and from a highway, but not much. I had to use a flashlight to set up and manual focus.

Great result Greg! The movement in the clouds really compliments the static digger and makes it stand out, great colours all round and also really like the stars providing a bit more interest to the background.

Greg, you might try adding a little more light on the backhoe next time. Might make it pop even more. I've done this in similar situations with just a flashlight on smaller subjects.
Just brainstorming, but you might try aiming the low beams of your car headlights onto the backhoe and defuse the light by covering them with sheets of Suran-rap. If it is too much light, try blocking one of the headlights. Of course, you might also need to use a piece of plywood or something to block the light from the bottom to be careful not to light up the foreground and to concentrate the light upon the backhoe. With a fairly long exposure, you could also try giving the backhoe various lengths of this improvised flash-fill within the shutter time.

Wow (yet again)! I really like the colors, the foreground, the stillness juxtaposed against the movement (i.e. permanence vs. transience). And that sky is awesome!

I sure hope this shot and the others you posted have enough MPs to be printed big. Like fine-art-poster-sized-big. What a great series they'd make!

Ron I have thought about using some light. I had a flashlight with me but it was to small. The headlights is an excellent I idea. I have another to shot soon and the dozer is parked across a road. I may try that. This one was in a muddy field I would have certainly got stuck
