spider close up

trying some close up shots out my back garden using a 28 to 80mm lens with a +4 close up ring on a D300 and a SB 800 speedlight in my hand, i was trying to highlight the web as the light was fading. Any tips on shooting close up welcome.

Why do spiders always look so fierce? This one is tiny helpless thing but they really scare ya.
