    The Space Between
I have always wanted to try a diptych but haven't really every had any good subjects to try it on. So a hard nose critique would be appreciated. I know you all won't hold anything back.LOL. I had to do so skewing to get the horizon and lake front as far as you see. The ladies were actually furthur away from each other than the picture lets on. So, What do you think?

First of all I think that each image needs to be really outstanding on its own for a diptych to work well. These have some interest but are basically plain (do the images seemed squashed to you?).

Anyway I like the idea and the way you matched up the waterlines-perhaps if you had gotten a lot closer to the fisherwomen......

    Greg,

i like the idea but the execution lets it down for me.

I think MB1 has said what I wanted, neither picture is strong enough on its own merits and therefore could not work as a diptych.

I like the almost matching of the treeline and the water's edge but its not good enough and perhaps its too close because of the mismatch in the treeline.

having the birds in one as a large line unbalances the photo's for me and different shadows on the water upsets the apple cart.

Hope you can make sense of what I'm trying to say.

What's a diptych? I think I may understand by looking at the merge...but nothing seems to match.

I've never tried one so don't know much about them but this appears to be more of a low quality pano because of the almost lined up shore and tree lines.
I am hoping you will keep trying. I know I need to try new things.

Usually a pair of related photos displayed in the same frame or hinged together as hanging or standing panels. I think 3 related photos displayed together (triptych) are more common.

There's some humor in this with the similar poses and the one looking toward the other that I like. We wonder a bit about the story here- why they aren't sitting together, whats going through her mind, etc.

I think I'd like them better with a little space between them, like two pics displayed in seperate openings in a mat. Then it would seem less like an attempt to make one pic out of two. It seems that there is a little difference in color or contrast between them that might be better if the same.

It may not be the strongest diptych ever made but I think it's worth while.
