    Re: Southampton Water

The boats on the light reflection are kind of cool but there's just a huge expanse of black in sky and left of subject.

I agree there may be a bit to much negative space at the top of the picture, but the glissening water an boat silhouette are beautiful. The skyline also adds to the image. Another keeper.....

    Re: Southampton Water

It appears moonlit, is it? I would expect more movement in the water, I guess if it were. I don't know if a higher view point was available, but it would have gotten some seperation between the boat and the land. I agree that there's too much room at the top, it pulls the eye away from the subject with no reward.
A nice mood but it doesn't quite come together for me.

Roger; The lobsided lighthouse, or whatever it is, distracts me. I feel the sky is crying out for a suitably placed foggy moon. Are you up for a bit of honest cheating?

    Re: Southampton Water

The water and boat work well, but other wise there is way to much dark, negative space. It seems out of balance to me. It may be partially this monitor as well. The skyline/horizon seems to dark and there's not enough separation in the tones. Is this the same one as in the Gallery? (Again I may be having a monitor issue here).

I like the boats and water, the horizon looks like it could work quite well. Unless there's a lot of detail or other hiding in that sky, it is overpoweringly black. Perhaps even cropping 15-20%
of the top would bring the lower portion back into proportion.

    Thanks for sharing this one!

    Thanks to all for commenting

Tom - Where did I file that moon photo - it will be here soon. I don't count that as cheating I used to do things like that in the darkroom so it's got to be OK in Digital photography. The lopsided light house is a Radar tower and a sailing boat combined, couldn't see this through the LCD viewfinder on the powershot pro at the time. I can see the boat and the radar dome in the picture because I know what I am looking at. (I sail here most weekends).

Chunk - No its midday with a polariser on the camera. I was going for the silhouette and B&W as the final outcome. The colour version the sky is almost medium purple to purple. I think I took some on my AE1 from a different view point with Fuji Film but can't rremember whats on the film. Its gone off for processing so I have to wait.

Frog, Greg, drg - Yep I see what your saying about the sky and will try cropping it into possibly landscape to loose the sky. I now wish I'd taken one without the polariser on.

    Thanks again for commenting

    Tom,

How did I do, I tried to put the halo in but I don't think its that convincing. Any ideas on how to get the halo to blend into the the sky?
