    Reels & Readers

Inspired by Brian's holga shot of his expensive boat trip!!
Deep sea fishing in Thailand on New Year's Eve.

Tried to capture the fish head on the rice sack with the Thai print with my holga but it failed miserably, got on better with the macro lens on my canon.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated

    Many thanks

    Not bad Herriot!
I like the repetition of the rods and reels.
The colors seem funky but I think it works.
I like the fish one too, I like how you composed it, with the tension from the fish.

I take it you actually aught something then?

On a close up note with Holga's, I have heard of people using simple magnifying glasses to do close up work. They just hold the magnifying glass over the front of the lens.

    Re: Reels & Readers

I am not really thrilled by the shot of the fishing reels though I think it has a lot of potential. The thing that immediately turns me off is the color in the photo, it looks very artificial to me. The composition works but maybe the photo could have benefited from greater DOF.

The fish head photo on the other hand really appeals to me. I love the composition and until I read your text I thought that the fish was laying on a newspaper which I really liked. The detail and colors are great. Very well done on this shot.

The reels are beautifully composed but I have to agree about the colors; the harsh lighting has disrupted your continuity. I really like the slack in the line on the end that curves away and is different from the tautness of the others.
The fish is just way cool as has already been noted.
On the whole I'd say these are really fun and it looks like you had some too.

Thank you all for your comments.
Agree that the colours on the fishing reels are too harsh, I will step it down next time.

Thanks also for your comment Brian, I just have to locate a magnifying glass now and I will surely try some cloe up Holgas, that sounds really fun. (Just a FYI - 5 tuna that day!!)

    Thanks again
