I am not sure how I want to say this. The concept and most of the picture is fine. The reflection of the bars off the window, very nice. But, the ladder in the background is distracting, as well as the lamp. Not that you could do anything about it. I also just noticed the reflection of the building in the window as well. If the ladder weren't there, it would be pretty neat. Good looking.

    Re: Behind Bars!!

    Hey Roger

I think the bars themselves could make for an interesting subject in this photo. For me tho, there is way to much going on here to figure out what's going on. Make sense? I didn't think so. I find the the ladder, what looks to me like the back of a chair, the light in the middle of the photo all distracting, but I don't know what the main subject is suppose to be so I don't know what they are distracting me from.

I think you have a neat idea here for a shot that is outside the box. Perhaps different composition would help out... I think the idea of the building being reflected in the window would make a nice shot, but the elements that I mentioned above seem to be getting in the way. At least for me.

As Michael pointed out, I also don't know what the main subject is here. It's hard to determine whether the subject is the reflection or the ladder/light/inside of the window. It's hard to critique cause I don't want to critique the wrong thing. I love the idea, just a few factors affecting it,

Roger, good idea on shooting the reflections behind the bars, and the bars themselves are interesting, but too much going on in the reflection to allow one to appreciate the image. Less is more as they say

*sigh* I guess I just had NO imagination when I was in London.

Despite the things people have pointed out, I admire the attempt. You have a good eye to even see the possibility! I probably just walked right on by....

    Re: Behind Bars!!

    Dear all,

Thanks for the comments and understand the comments.

I was trying to get the juxtaposition of all three elements which is the modern office interior against the old city reflections, the decoration inside against the bars which need painting all held behind bars so to speak.

Well it was worth a try - I'll try it next time once the decorators have finished may make a better photo but it may then have blinds and office equipment in so maybe not.

Kelly - just posted a response to your Hyde Park photo - I will be posting another that I took on wednesday tonight to get comments on. I guess we all dry up at times, I know I do.

I am going to be out on a limb here but I enjoy what's not right about this. Had to look at this for a good while to work it out. No main subject here for me but the combination of everything gives it an original and abstract look which I like. The yellow of the ladder contrasts well with the other colours and everything else. Taken near Blackfriars Bridge I think?
Have to say though Roger this picture looks a bit pixelated on my screen.

Glad you find this appealing - Yes it is BlackFriars bridge just underneath the steps coming down from the bridge. The office there is being refurbished.

You seem to know London well!

I noticed that Jared commented on the photo of the bridge from close to that position and I noticed my compression setting set very low. Try this image for size

    Hello Roger
    Thats better alright.
I know some of London fairly well. I did a night session in London not too long ago and was down around Blackfriars and attached is one you will recognise.

You can't have been far from this office, What a coincidence!!

A much better shot than the one I have. Nice photo must start taking some night shots.

This could be a good "reflection" photo, but it is too busy for you to concentrate on the reflection. What's behind the glass is too distracting. This is a pity because the subject of the reflection is very nice.

For the essence of a work of art is, after all, that it cuts out a piece of the endlessly continuous sequences of perceived experience, detaching it from all connections with one side or the other, giving it a self-sufficient form as though defined and held together by an inner core.
