    Snow fence

I'm not terribly happy with the crop here, but it's better than the original. Any ideas how to improve?

    Re: Snow fence

Maybe crop in tighter so that maybe some of the fence at the bottom right is actually out of the frame. That way it looks like the fence is almost never-ending, and will wind through the photo. I just think the dead space at the bottom right is whats messing up a very good shot to begin with.

    Zrfreaser -

I tried you suggestion below. I think the never-ending fence feel is a plus. I miss the white snow at the bottom, but it was also a little too plain... maybe if there was some animal tracks there it might have worked better.

    Thx for the comment!

    Re: Snow fence

The biggest flaw to me is how the fence blends in with the background. Unfortunately, cropping can't help that.

    Beautiful scene.

Seb - Yes, it is somewhat cluttered isn't it. It's hard to visualize what it would be like w/o the background though... For clutter, doesn't seem too bad... like "ok" clutter (ha). Maybe I could burn down the trees and see - Ooops - that's already been done (this area caught fire and was reduced to ashes, btw... pretty sad, eh)

Don - thanks for the comment.

    Re: Snow fence

It's the perspective that bothers me more then anything else. I think the whole shot would have worked better for me if you had not been looking up at the fence. Sadly there is no way to fix that by cropping either. That said I like the first one a little better.

dmm96452 - Yeah, at the current state of the art, not possible to rotate it around. I have a lot of other angles though - more will come after I scan them in.

I could never ignore the advice of someone from Severna Park, btw (I'm previously from Riverdale).

    Hey GB,

I think it might be helped if you rotated just a little -- such that the background trees are vertical. Either that or make the left fence post vertical.

    GB,

I think most things have been covered except how about using colour to separate the fence from the background? You did use Velvia which is colour right?

Tim - I haven't had much success rotating photos in software. It always introduces serious jaggies. Maybe I can turn it that far in the slide scanner holder though.

Roger - Yes, it was Velvia. But I had to adjust the color a bit after I scanned it, there was a pretty serious bluish tint in the photo that I believe was introduced by the sky (maybe the sky was clearer behind me). I really like the Nikon Coolscan's correction functions, they work miracles (and they should, for what they charge for the thing....!)

What resolution is the scan? If it high enough, you should be able to it (and then crop to adjust the boarders).

Tim - It scans up to 4000 dpi. I'll try a high-res scan and see if it makes any difference. I'm hopeful, but nothing beats shooting it correctly to begin with

dmm96452 - I sent myself, actually. Wanted some new horizons, plus some new subjects for my photography. Lived in congested N. Va for the last five years I was in the DC area, and that was just too crazy (now I live in another congested area...)
