What a great place to shoot. It's on my list....

The first looks dark. It looks like you were going for the nice sky. Maybe you can play with things a little to bring out the shadows. It's a nice composition with a great bg/fg shape.

The last one is just too contrasty.

But the middle one.... We'll it is just a beautiful, warm picture. I think it is just very nice. Did you shoot it the same time as the other two? If so, it great reflected light.

Just wonderful GB! I love them all! The colors are great, the symmetry/randomness is just amazing, and I love the conceptual 'art' feel you get from looking at them! Great shots!

WOW FACTOR! - I love all of these its brilliant, excellent, and I disagree with Tim the fact you have gone this root with strong contrast in 3 giving that abstract feel, the exposure for the sky giving the rocks a sombre feel and the perfect lighting for the rocks giveing me an awestruck feel.

These are absolutely stunning images, all three of them, the second stands out above the others for me, really interesting patterns and use of light, thanks for sharing!!

Well done on all three. The first photo is nice but does not have any element that makes it standout like the other three.
The second photo is just beautiful (the lighting - WOW!) and no other critique can I give. Print it, frame it and hang it.
I like the abstract feel of the third and you did a great job of making an interesting composition. The one suggestion I would like to make it to see this photo in B&W. The photo is really already there, but I think B&W would give it more abstraction because it would hide the sky somewhat.

Thanks all. OldSchool, you're right about the shadows.. I tried bringing them out with software adjustments, this was the best I could do with #1 before it became hazy (u can see that starting to intrude already on the left side). Maybe a lower-contrast film, negative film for instance, would have been superior to the Velvia I used? All were taken at the same time btw.

Seems contrast is an interesting attribute of photography. Sometimes you really want it and sometimes it ruins the shot. Note that lenses are sometimes evaluated on how much contrast then produce (it being a good thing). To me it often introduces a dramatic feel to a photo. But you can also lose a lot of information too.

PlantedTao -- I tried desauturating this, here's what I got. Different. I think I will try this for some of the other shots I took (a lot didn't turn out as well as these three).

I don't know which one I like more now...the B&W or Color.
The B&W has a more abstract feel to it now, but I like how you can make out what it is in the color version.
Also, the B&W version now has a very feminine feel to it which really adds to the abstraction. (Does anyone else see that?)

I could see the feminine in the colour version. I think to do the B&W justice this would have to be printed as a large poster, whereas the colour could be slightly smaller. Just my opinion of course

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah, I think that the Black and White could potentionally look really nice as a big B&W poster print.. It almost looks like a reflection in a pond to me? I personally like it better than the color version (- thanks for the idea, PlantedTao..). It somehow allows me to focus on the shape w/o the distraction of the color. I will go back and scan a few more and try the conversion to Black and White on them.... a LOT of the shots I took really weren't that impressive.. the color was extremelly muted on most (unlike # 2 here). The operators told me that this part of the canyon is best at early morning (they open at 8) as opposed to the main Tourist area part, which is ideal about noon when the light shines through the ceiling.
