    Haywood Valley

My wife liked this one. Shot with Ifford SFX200 and a #25 Red filter...

Greg, the more I look at this shot, the more it's becoming my favorite out of this group. It has a really nice, ethereal feel to it. My only nitpick is I wish the main tree in the front "popped" a bit more. Keep up the good work

I looked earlier and thought this was good but couldn't put my finger on what wasn't quite right. I think Aaron got it as the tree just sort of blends in. Not sure what you could have done about it though. Spot metering on the tree?

    Re: Haywood Valley

Greg - I like your photo here in that it appears somewhat like a painting. If it were in color than it would probably be even more so. It's nice for what it is, but there are a few technical issues too, like extreme contrast, blown out upper sky, lack of sharpness (could be why the tree blends in), and due to the contrast, very little discernable detail in much of the shot. The abstract feeling and good composition save it, I think...

Looking good old man, I like this shot. It makes me want to get out and shoot.

    How can I be lost
If I've got nowhere to go?

    Re: Haywood Valley

Greg, I like the placement of the tree and the water or path that leads out into the scene. I would have to agree with much of GB1's assesment here. The tree needs to seperate some more to come out and the trees in the bg need to show a little detail.
Still, it is an interesting and almost surreal looking image.

    Re: Haywood Valley

I think it is slightly too dark and the dark band of hills/trees just below the sky causes detail in the tree in the foreground to get lost-color might solve the tree getting lost but I do like this as a B&W.
    No, I DON'T need that.

Aaron, Frog, Tyson, Gary, GB1, Mb1, Thanks, Surreal was what I was after. I will try and dodge the tree some and see if it helps seperate it from the backgound.
