    Second attempt - Sepia Barn

Decided to try a different barn photo after reading the comments on my first 'sepia barn'. This one has more detail/texture to the sky. I started the treatment with a slightly different color, then played with the hue and saturation a little harder. Also had to do some cloning on powerlines that were running right through the image.

I don't think the barn is enough of a photo the way it is. Maybe it needs greater sharpening and contrast to emphasize the roughness of the wood. Maybe it needs to be cropped to get rid of some of the ordinary surroundings.

Barn shots are a very popular subject and therefore and as such need that something extra to lift them above the mainstream.
I'm enjoying your barns. They always make good subjects. I feel a straight forward B/W might be more interesting. Worth trying I think.
This second one needs a bit more contrast but other than that you have presented us with two nice photographs.

This one is better. Crop some from the bottom and straighten it up.

Re: Second attempt - Sepia Barn

Just in for lunch and decided to see if there were any comments. Thanks for your comments, one and all.

When I'm in for the day I'll start on two new attempts. One plain B&W and another sepia with more contrast and cropped differently. I can see where the cropping could help.

As for straightening it up, I used the horizontal line of the board overlap across the front of the barn and the windows as my leveling lines. The barn rests on a slight hillside and I decided to shoot from a side angle to include more of the barn in the photo. Which other line might I use to level? I can try the line of the concrete footer, but it seems to me that would make the barn lean to the right.

I did a tighter crop and raised the contrast a bit. Here is a B&W and a sepia tone.

Full credit to you for your great efforts at improving the original. Personally I had no problems with the original shape so I never felt a crop was needed. I liked seeing the old barn in some of it's surroundings.
The new tones you have created are very good too. I think I favour the b/w version but without the cropping.
Greg mentioned about plumbing it up. Why? These old barns are always on the verge of toppling over anyway. That's their character.
