I actually like this a lot. I really love the DOF...even the grain is great. I have kids, so maybe I appreicate this more, but I really do love it. I love the Black and White, too (that's where my photography heart is). I like how the window sits behind the little girl...and her face is perfect for this shot. Great job!

    Re: The Scream

The DoF, the grain and the expressions are what make this shot....

But the corner line betweent he kids is oblique (diagonal) - The back of the girl (your daughter?) is blown out, and the empty wall is not that great either...

If it is about the scream, i dont get the feeling of the scream, i just a little boy with an open mouth leading me to believe that he was screaming or shouting (as we all were annoying )

I'm guessing you went wide with the lens and got closer to the little girl, which is why the boy is so far away...and there are these line convergences...

Again, i like the mood given by the dof-grain-expression but it just doesn't work for me! (and its not because i like hot-rods )

well, it definately works for me... I think I like how the window is blown out--it adds to the "sweetness" of the girl...while the "screamer" is left in the empty corner (although..to me, it's not the type of scream the would be annoying, but would make you laugh really hard...like when kids make fart noises--- I still get in trouble for laughing when kids make fart noises.)

    Re: The Scream

Well let me start by explaining that i love annoying kids....i love making fart noises and telling them they should stop farting it is impolite... whenver there is a family gathering, you will find me on the floor playing with the kids....

Like i said, i like the emotional response i get from the image....i was simply talking about it from a technical standpoint!

and i dunno why i felt the need to defend myself

i didn't mean to make you defend yourself! i'm sorry if it felt that way.
I guess I just really liked this picture...I even saw it in my head when I was falling asleep last night---like you said, it's the emotional response. Plus, I felt like I didn't really fully explain why I liked the image in my first response---so it was more me adding to my incompleteness.

Ha! I like the different points of view, but Trog...are you saying women will never like hot rod pictures and men will never like pictures of children? I think that's generalizing a bit, don't you think? I like cars if they're done in an artistic way. If it's just the car sitting in some garage or parking lot...not so much.

Anyway, the print of this is actually lighter than how it appears on the screen. I never know how these things are going to scan. I do have some pictures with that window where I burned it in and liked how it turned out. I'll have to try that with this one and see what I think. I'm not sure why I didn't already...

Deliriumfrogs - are you a darkroom junkie too?? Unfortunately, I'm going to have to move to digital pretty soon here because i'm lazy and it's easier

I LOVE THE DARKROOM!!! but i've since switched to digital---but someday there WILL be a darkroom in my house. I just love how it's your own little world in there---it's not the same sitting at your computer. Plus...doesn't music sound better in the darkoom? It was my favourite place to listen.

Scanners due do automatic brightness and gamma adjustments. That why you need to adjust things in Photoshop or another photo editor. Other than that I like the photo, reminds me of when my children were that age....
