I like the soft violet color of the background. The foreground is a slight disappointment in comparison, just not quite enough color (I see the flowers trying to show themselves, but it's just a little dark there). The sky is really nice.

Wow - I found myself staring at the layers of mountains for a long time

I think of this image as a meal - the grass as the appetizer and the mountains as the main course. But you got too much appetizer. I feel that the image could have been more powerful if you could have emphasized the mountains more or dominated the image with more mountains.

Perhaps a little less grass and more river to draw the eye to the mountains.

Your landscapes are really nice. The detail/closeup photos you posted before don't show as much of an understanding for your subject. But practice makes perfect. You seem to have a good understanding for light and composition with the landscapes. I agree with both of the previous critiques here. I think either a slightly wider crop or a little less on the left and more on the right would have been nice. But I wouldn't want to lose that bunch of trees. They're a nice anchor for the whole composition. So maybe just a little wider. Maybe you have a wider version?

And the missing detail that GB1 mentioned? It's likely you can pull it out with some careful editing. I don't know what you've done, but I'm guessing there's more detail to be had from this image. Is it film or digital? Digital images usually have a lot more information in the shadows than you realize. I usually shoot dark to hold highlight details and then use masked Photoshop adjustment layers to get more information out of the important dark areas in my images.

Where is the Salt River? It's a beautiful location.

Re: Salt River at sunrise w/ pic

I agree the image seems a little lopsided to the left. I wanted to crop out some forground on the right that wasn't adding anything to the image. I did a little dogding and burning in certain areas such as the reeds along the edge of the river. I have not used the masking features much yet in photoshop. I am still learning and take a minimalistic approach to post processing.

The Salt River flows from the White Mountains on the east side of the greater Phoenix area. This shot was taken about 5 minutes before sunrise. I am planning on going back in the eveing at sunset (hopefully with a stormy sky) weather permiting.

    Thank you for the comments.
