the Depth of field is ok, there's a nice separation between subject and background here. the tones are also appealing, love the pink. there are a few things that don't work for me in this photos. 1. seems the entire photo is very soft. kind of out of focus, there might be some area that is in focus in the centre but the softness overall makes this weaker than had it been nice and sharp. 2. centering the subject doesn't work here for me.

    nice try though! :-)

Need more sharpness and contrast. Some color enhancement could help, too.

Sorry for the late replies. Thanks to both of you for replying.

@Leels - Just wondering, but which part looks the most out of focus? And would you add more to one of the sides of the picture?

@AgingEyes - More contrast between what? The petals, the background?

hi, I typed up a lot then I hit 'post' and the server went busy on me. lol. I'll try again. this time I'll save it!

ok, so it's soft throughout. the center looked sharper but that might just be an opticall illusion. so i think the entire shot is on the soft part.

Which side to add more to, to move the flower out of the center isn't important. you can compose it anyway you wish. centered also, sometimes is good. but not at this size. If I were shooting this from the top (which looks like you did here) i would've filled the entire frame with the flower. then you can center it and it will be fine. and you can pick up all the fine details in the folds of the petals.

right now the flower is small in the frame and it is centered, i think that combination doesn't work well. If you wanted this small in the frame, then yeah, I would suggest to move it to any of the intersection points of the third lines. which one doesn't matter, it's as you wish. i hope that helped! :)

@ Leels - GOTCHA!!! I'll have to work on that :) Roses are fun to shoot, especially since I have a rose bush in my backyard at home. But I have to wait for it to warm up again so that it can bloom again. :p Thanks for the advice

@AgingEyes - I see what you mean by contrast. Thanks very much for showing me. I just did one on my own, and I agree with you, looks much better with a darker background.
