    Concept of Lines...

I just started an on-line class and we are working on the basic concepts such as 3rds, lines, natural framing, etc. I was playing with this picture to see what I could see and noticed the 'line' from the upper left to Barney's head. Does this work for anybody else? Any and all comments appreciated. - TF

    Re: Concept of Lines...

I see the line you are talking about (the line of leaves), but I think they are looking more for a "leading line".
A line of something that leads the eye through the picture or to a subject. Like the fence/path below:

I may be all wet though. Lets see what others say.

I moved this to the Photo Critique forum because it might get more responses there - this is really more of a topic for that forum. I see the line that you're talking about but I don't think it's "dominant" enough to really worry about - good or bad. If anything I think it adds to the shot, but I just don't think it's strong enough it that was the goal. Good shot, however - dog looks like he's smiling!

Thanks again. I'll keep working on it.

His smile comes from what I said to get him to come for the shot - "Barney-Supper."

The fence/creek is very strong leading to the hut. Do you consider the water on the right to also be something leading you to the subject? - TF

The water is not a very strong leading line. If the fence was not there and the shot had more of the stream ... maybe.
