Re: Rocks and Sun
Greg the composition in this is spot on IMO but I think the rocks are too dark, and as they are a primary element in the image they need to surrender a bit more detail, they don't really work as silhouettes. Also I feel the colour could be a bit more vibrant. At the moment it looks like a really nice work in progress...:)

Re: Rocks and Sun
I agree with Pete's assessment here, but having seen the larger image posted to FB, it shows a lot more detail in the rocks. With a 5-image HDR, I would think you could pull out some additional detail, however the larger image is looking pretty noisy in the shadows. Might need to apply some serious NR to each frame prior to HDR.
I like the composition.

Re: Rocks and Sun
light is technically complicated and HDR helped you a lot in this case
color saturation look ok to me
the distant bridge over the rocks is like a picture within a picture
composition is fine
But somehow I think it lacks interest, wish there was something going on besides seeing two rocks and clear blue sky

Re: Rocks and Sun
Thanks guys. I *can* easily lighten up the rocks, but it will make it look unusual like that, ya know ... (like an HDR!).
Pete, Ken, I think your comments on lightening up the rocks to show more detail is explained in Armando's observation; it's a pretty shot, but there's not a whole lot of interesting stuff happening, unfortunately. Maybe you are subconsciously trying to get something more out of it than it has? It's just two dumb rocks :D Alas, it has some neat colors and other elements.
Ken, funny, the FB image is the same, though actually *smaller* ... FB apparently upsizes images to fit the screen. And that's bad: it makes them look very pixelated :(
Thanks all, for looking.

Re: Rocks and Sun
I think the image works alot better with the positioning of it as two rocks enjoying the sunset, which you explained on FB...then I don't look critically at the detail of the rock.

Re: Rocks and Sun
The rocks look like a pair of petrified giants shoes. Just curious, but how did the two large rocks come to be in what looks like a sandy estuary ?
BTW Ken we will have to stop agreeing so much people will talk...:)

GB1 I really like the focusing of your photo. Good shot indeed.

Re: Rocks and Sun
Very cool shot. How does it look if you crop it as a portrait?

Love the natural shadows and surreal feel... and the control of the sun's brightness looks great.

Re: Rocks and Sun
Beautiful. I love how the sun is shining between the rocks.
