    Re: ring of the beach

i really like the ideaand its the perfect location to do it, but your fingers seem very distracting to me. maybe if you could have balanced the filter on its edge on a table or similar item.

I agree that the fingers are distracting, either have more of your hand visible, or no fingers visible. The concept is awesome!

To add to what everyone else said, I'd also straighten out the horizon. To me your fingers don't really distract me much as they are out of focus and black & white.

I kind of liked the tilted horizon, it gives the shot a different feel. Everybody shoots level, symmetrical type photos, the slant is a good, well... slant to the shot.

thanks a lot for sharing your opinion about my picture.

IMO my fingers are part of this picture, I dont think that a ring (filter) by it self would work.

    Re: ring of the beach

I agree that the fingers are distracting. But if there were sharp, totally in focus and so was the ring, might be different.

    neat idea!

thanks for the reply... if the fingers and ring were more detailed and in focus would it not be more distracting?

Imho, no -- it would see more refined and intentional. But it would also be harder to do cause you would need a very very deep DOF. Not even sure f 22 could do that (depends on which lens you are using - wide angle may make it). You'd have to use a tripod and set up your hyperfocal distance very smartly.

Really like this image. Wish I had better command of PS to make such a shot. I prefer the horizon were level also but this is a creative fun piece and it works fine the way it is too.

Love the concept... too bad there wasn't a way to get the filter (guessing that's what it is) to be more in focus, but that's an equipment limitation. :mad2: I like the fact that what's inside the ring is color, and the rest is black and white, too.
