Rides at the fair - in the dark...
This was my first attempt at this type of photography. Any pointers?

There is something about that Giant wheel I just like. Perhaps you could brighten the blue a bit in the first shot.

    Great Shots

Of the two the second is the strongest. I like the motion but the crop is too tight for my liking. Did you crop this and if so how much? Having more of the surroundings might be nice. I might even go a little darker to add more pop. Good image.

Both are nice. You nailed them both. Wonderful colors in them both. Nice framing too.

Thanks everyone. Yes - I did crop the giant wheel to get the rest of the fair out of the shot. It was distracting. The first shot was a hard one to get the timing right on. It was a ride that people sat side by side and the 'seat' would slowly rise to the top only to drop as soon as it got there. So, figuring out when to push the shutter button and how long of an exposure to use was hard. I don't know that I'm good enough w/ PS to darken colors - but I'll play a bit.

try just darkening the shadows Amanda. Thats what I do with fireworks images to get the colors to leap off the backdrop. The fireworks alway slight the smoke and clouds behind them so cranking up the shadows does wonders.

Amanda---since I don't have a lot of experience in night shooting, there isn't anything I can comment on other than I like the wheel the most. Nice colors.

Jaedon - how do I darken the shadows? Funny - I remember typing that question yesterday but it didn't show up here.

John S - thanks - I don't have a lot of experience shooting at night either. But it was fun.

Amanda- Theres a setting to adjust the highlights and shadows. Just a slide bar under image/adjustments if you're using PS
