    Regal Bearing

This is our 10 year old "new" dog. He is either a Pekingese or a Japanese Chin (no papers exist, but I am betting on the latter based on pictures I have seen of the two breeds. Not that it matters anyway, he is just our dog, not a show dog! )

(Taken with the EF 50mm 1.8 II with existing indoor lighting in our very poorly lit living room!)

Very cute......Definitely looks like a Chin to me. I have seen quite a few. They are good little dogs. They were actually used as royal dogs, so your title fits well.
I like the picture alot. My only critique would be, I am not crazy about the black and white/the pastels/and the primary colors all together, it makes it too busy for me. And then also the lighting but I understand window light is not always easy to work with......I gather we will see more pics of the royal dog?

    Re: Regal Bearing

Thanks Chow! It is good to hear someone that knows the breed confirm our suspicions about his Chin-ness! My 9 year old son is actually the one that figured it out (we had been told he was a Peke). He saw a poster of dog breeds and said - "Look, that's the type of dog Jack is!" My wife looked casually at the poster and said, "Yes, a Pekingese." To which my son replied, "But that's not what it says under the picture!" And my wife concured that the Chin looked more like Jack than the Peke. The undershot jaw is part of it. No Matter, he is a sweet old guy and we all love him! No matter what his royal lineage (both being dogs of emporers!)

I can agree with the background issues. That is partly why I was going for such a shallow DOF! His highness likes his blankies, and far be it from me to tell him which ones to sit on! LOL! I do have a couple more of him and will continue to take more I'm sure. I'll post some more when I get the chance, cause he is quite the cutie!

Thanks again! (Man, am I rambling or what!)

It is indeed a Chin. My family has been raising Pekingese for forever, starting with my grandparents bafore my father was around. The giveaway is the snout, and pronounced chin area. Cute lil baby!! Mine is scared of the camera, and won't stay still for anything!! Lucky you.

Thanks payn! He is pretty good about "posing" for the camera. Or, he likes to sit around alot and he looks at his people frequently.
