    My Students

This one is taken in an orientation camp happened one week ago. I have used ISO 1600 under poor lighting conditions. Again all comments are welcome.
    cheers,

Welcome to the board. You probably had to have the aperture open all the way to take the photo, but the result is that the students on the far sides of the photo are too blurred to really make it effective. I might crop it to include the young man in the center.

    Hi Lava,

thanks for your comment. Yeah the lighting is extremely poor as I need to push it up to ISO 1600 before I can safely press the shutter at f/4, 1/125 sec. I am a bit hesitate to use flash as it will disturb the activity. But the setting is chosen also partly for the reason of emphasising the one in the centre. Maybe you are right, a smaller aparture value (I should get a IS lens then :-p) with all the people clean and clear may produce a rather different effect.

    Thanks again for your advice.

    Dof

I like the shallow dof because it really emphasizes your subject. Good expression you captured on him, very animated. Looks good in b&w also. What I don't like is the face on the right being cut off, and also the bright white thing (clothing?) in the lower right. So I'd try cropping off some of the ride side, leaving 3 people instead of 3 1/2, and see how that looks.

    Hello Alex,

I like your picture a lot. The lighting, the contrasts and most importantly, the wide tonal range are impressive. I find this photograph to have a strong emotional impact.

I will fully agree with Spike comment, you could have easily cropped at the right to make it a 3 people picture and the result would only be stronger.

    regards

    Alex,

I already liked the original one as I have previously said but this one look much stronger to me. I think that this is cropped right.

    regards
