Reflection

I was sitting in the backseat of a car when we were driving down a freeway, and I happened to look at the mirror on the side of the car. In it was a reflection of the sunset that was behind us, and I did not hesitate to snap a few pictures of it in hopes of getting a different perspective on the sky. Personally I find this shot interesting, but I'm not sure if there is anything I can do to improve it. Any opinions or ideas are welcome!

One gripe. If it is a sunset I would have left it in color.

I agree it would have been a lot better in color (considering I saw how it really looked), but unfortunately I shot this with an SLR and had black and white film in my camera . I could have taken out the roll and put in color but I would have wasted half of the exposures. One of the many reasons I wish I had the money to go digital...

I thought I was the only one that did that!! I shot two days worth of beach and sunset in Jamaica on my Honeymoon; took out the roll and realized it was b/w! D'oh! Argh! I printed one of the sunsets and hand colored it anyway, doggone it. I must be stubborn, it hangs in my bathroom as a reminder to me to always check my equipment. Maybe you could try some digital coloring for this one. Might be fun.

Well atleast I'm not the only one that has made that mistake ! I never actually thought about digitally coloring it, but I will definitly give it a try now. I might actually be able to give it more of a surreal look with different colors. Thank you for the suggestion! I think you may have just found me my next project .

Hi Guitarboy...I love my sideview mirrors for reflection shots. My wife is always threatening to throw my cameras out the car window because I'm usually paying more attention to it than my driving...uh oh...hehe...
I really like this shot and I think the b/w gives it a dark and foreboding feel. Admitted, as a sunset...it doesn't work so well, but it's still a nice capture.
I have one question.......
What is the white triangle on the left side of the photo???

Thank you for the comments! The white triangle is actually the opposite window of the car. I was in the backseat when I took this picture so the mirror was actually reflecting the sky behind us as well as the person in the front passenger seat, the driver, and the driver's window. I snapped off a shot and then realized that more than just the sky would be in the picture, so I used a red filter and suprisingly it got rid of all but that triangle. I would have taken it out in photoshop, but I wasn't sure if it was either too distracting or an interesting point in the shot.
