This is my second ever squirrel photo. He was in a tree with a bird I was photgraphing. (I'll post the bird later.)

    Does this work for you?

I wish it was sharper but other than that, I like it.

When I looked at this pic the first thing that caught my eye was the stick in front of the squirrel’s mouth. I really wish that stick wasn’t there. The sticks in the background are also a bit distracting but it can be tough to get a clean background. I do like the stick that he is holding onto. Was this a heavy crop? Overall the picture looks soft? Did you use some sort of noise reduction software or use some sort of selective sharpening method? It looks like the eye, forehead, right shoulder and top of the tail are over-sharpened compared to the rest of the picture. Finally the composition is pretty centered. Not bad for a second ever squirrel pic.

He's adorable but he has a weirdy thing coming out of his eye. It kind of bothers me. The background too is somewhat distracting mixed with all the branches. It kind of looks to me like the focus may have gone on the tail. Its great, but maybe you could sharpen his face a little.
What is nice is that little bunch of berries next to him, which is prob what he was after. And those little hands holding the branch just rules. I don't mind the branch in front of him because hes kind of lookin over it like "huh? what's going on?" All that being said, I now say that I could not do this well on a wildlife shot like that. I can crituque them, but can't catch those guys holding still. You deserve a pat on the back!
PS it a little, it's a nice shot.

Thanks for all the coments. I more or less agre, except for the centering. Sometimes you have to break the "rules,"and I think it would be a weaker picture if it was artifically off-center.
