    The Pout...need help

There are things that are really bothering me with this picture, and every b&w that I've done with the Nikon D70..I've played around with white balance, but it's not helping. If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, please tell me. This was taken at 1/60, 4.5, natural light from the side, no flash, zoomed all the way in at 70mm. Thanks a bunch!

Seems almost like a limited grayscale because of the zoning you can see if you enlarge the area around her shoulder. Do you have a choice of number of colors in your setup?

I was a little surprised by your description of the lighting because of the catchlights and the hard shadowline below her chin.

How do things look if you shoot in color and do your own conversion to BW?

You might get more help in the Help or Digital forums.

What resolution and file type was this save as in the camera?

    ...

While I'm not sure about the black and white issue (I agree, have you tried taking it in color and converting it?? That is how I get every B&W image) I just have to pop in and say she's adorable. I love the boo boo face, as we call it around here.

    Actually..

With the D70, you don't have the option to take photos in b&w, they all have to be converted. I saved this as a JPEG at the next to the highest resolution. Can't remember what that is right now, I'm at work....But thanks for the comments ....I may try to post this in the Digital forum and find out what's going on...

Can you post the color version? How are you doing the conversion?

I will post it for you tonight, it's on my home computer. I am actually converting it just by clicking greyscale. I know, not too technical, or smart, but you can tell in the color version, also, that something is different in that spot.

Just clicking greyscale is going to give you a grey image. There's a bunch of different methods for converting, and some are posted in the digital forum. I know AsylumSteve has gone into detail about more than one method over there, and so has Trevor Ash. Just do a search for b&w conversion.

    Chunk....Here's the Color Version

See, if you look at that same spot, it's still there...it's just more noticeable in b&w. I am going to try to search these message boards for those tips that adina suggested, but I am getting so aggravated with this computer right now. I live in the sticks and have dial up, and for some reason, have only been able to connect at, like, 26-31kbps....aaarrrrggghhh!!! Our ISP has "improved" their service and given us new dial up numbers and I think they have not gotten the kinks worked out or something. I may have to look at it at work. I know, I sound like the employee of the month, huh? Oh, well...Thanks for your help.
