    Playing Solo
Another shot from my recent shoot for a friend who will be releasing a CD this spring. This is one of the shots that he liked and yet I didn't. I am really anticipating the C&C on this one.

    Thanks

PP: Slight crop for better composure and colour saturation reduced ast the customers request.

Personally I liked it over saturated but I blame that on personal taste.

I like a little heavier saturation myself. But I would image your customer didn't like what it did to his flesh tones. They don't really look right in this one either. It's probably because of color bleed from that orange hat, but also could be cause from your light source.
If you camera has a "Portrait" setting, you might try that. It concentrates on flesh tones.

Thanks for the critique Ron. Here's my original edit. You beat me to it while I was re-editing the shot. The treatment is what caused the flesh tones to be weird. To be honest I did not do the treatment on the first edit it was the client's version he sent back to me. This was my edit originally.

And to be fair... it WAS -14C in there that day. It was shot in an old abandoned factory, called the Toronto Brickworks, the day before they were to begin renovations on it. His skin tones were more dictated by the cold than anything else.

I like the overall image, but might try to change a couple of things:

The light (flash?) seems a bit strong and the whole scene is lit by the same light; I think some directional lighting would add some interesting shadows and enhanced the mood.

I don't know how much room you had to maneouver in this space, but I think moving your friend away from the wall and playing with your DOF would help keep the interest on your subject.

Do you have any other images from this shoot? I'd really like to see some more!

    :)

There are a ton of shots form this site... unfortunately we had to go bare bones on the lighting because we were technically trespassing and we wanted to keep it light. I brought 2 flashes and remotes but due to the extreme cold the remotes and the flashes were acting up so by this point we were onto the flash in the hot shoe.

My favourite shot form the entire day was the 2nd shot when I have flashes on remotes. I will post that one in another thread as it needs to be critiqued on it's own.

I posted before the 2nd version went up - the stronger colours make the image much better!

I like the second one best but that red ribbon behind his leg is buggin me. I think you should clone that. The rest of it is fine.
