I get Armando's comment, but I do like the idea of her 'presenting' something. Maybe a diploma instead? Great eyes (!), smile, hair and so on. Excellent idea to use the backlighting: I find that it not only looks dynamic and makes the hair glow, but adds an element of 'risk' in the shot instead of playing it safe (I do that too often myself).

Thank you, Armando, and thank you GB1 for your insightful comments. The hat thing came out the fact that almost nobody looks good in a mortar board hat, but you need some context if it is going to be a grad photo. I also liked that it seems to capture the "I'm proud to be done, but kinda chill about it" teenage vibe. Lastly, I was glad to be able to try some different things with the backlighting. We had some time set aside and I knew if those didn't work out, I would have other shots to use.
