    good wood?

Flip it, crop it, change it, give up.? I am trying to figure what can be done to improve the shot (then again that is the purpose of the forum, I apologize for the redundancy). Sticking with texture. As always any and all comments welcome.

    Re: good wood?

It's an interesting perspective. I think it's interesting........

One problem however is that the background is the same tone (of greys) as the subject, so it's a little hard to tell them apart. You did a good job of blurring the background to help differentiate them, but it's still hard. I tried a crop of it, which to me looks better because it helps eliminate that.

    Again, a very interesting shot!

Cropped a bit. Quick and dirty pen tool selection on the log. Invert selection. Duplicate layer of BG selection. Gaussian blur to dupe layer of BG. Darken background. Contrast boost to log layer.

Just a quick blur to show the difference blur can make. The log pops more.
    Hope you like it.

One possibility I see here is a square crop roughly the size of the round cut-off branch area and a little less dof like the other psoter suggested. In other words, crop it a heck of a lot more so that very little of the background is showing.

    Re: good wood?

I do agree with Trevor on this one. I would also boost the contrast a little bit and burn the background.

It is not an in-interesting pic to look at. However, there is not much going on to keep me hooked. I find the log to be too round, too much like the barrel of a gun (I actually thought that it was an old canon at first sight ... then I put my glasses on ). Texture pics are really hard to make.

    Cheers,

    Steph.
