Photos from a week of playing with new lighting...

These and more are in my directory at http://bizfx.com/headshots/ - they are mostly from this week with my new lighting equipment. I actually dragged it out in my lil case to a real estate office and shot some photos there! It was actually quite easy to bring and they were utterly impressed! ;-) I have been playing with some creative lighting for more dramatic effects, as you will see below. I also played with a fog machine and colored lights for a few shots. That did some cool effects in the background (check out the flying fairy shot!)!

Great shots. With all of them, the DOF is just perfect, and each shot's colors are just bang on. My only critique would be in the flying one, in the top right hand corner, there's a dark spot. It definately breaks the idea of her flying! But other then that, great shooting, and very impressive!

Thanks - didn't see that dark spot! 4AM my eyes were closing - i'm such a nocturne! ;P

Thanks for the compliment - great lighting really does make a huge difference and I bought this at B&H - I very highly recomment it: It's the Lowell tota-light kitt for $323.95 plus the lowel tota-fram for 27.5 and sample pack filter (the gels) for $19.95. I used my 5 in 1 reflectors in every shot at various angles. Using the reflector, I place the light opposite to give a little highlighting, but not too much. Many of the shots my model looked right up into the light and the one where she looks devastated was her holding her face because it was so hot looking into the light! lol I have some really funny blooper shots - I should post those for laughs!

I think you have managed with great success a special mood with the 1st and last photo's. A real soft feeling and all aspects lighten well. The Sepia effect also works very well.

Janie, I'm so impressed by your work.. you constantly amaze me. I'll be away for a long time and when i come back... dang, you've expanded in a whole other area.. The one thing that stands out about you is your " Go get em" attitude which is inspiring to me and im sure everyone else! These photos are just fabulous!

I'm in the market for lighting equiptment but was going to go piece-meal. After seeing your set up, I'm thinking that may be a cheaper way to go. Does the set come with instructions for setting up the equiptment.. not just putting it together but placement? I'm sure I would have to experiment some but would like to know at least the basics.

Keep doing what you're doing and you will be a millionaire! I love seeing your shots and knowing that you are just learning as you go, gives me the confidence that i can learn too!
    Thank you for that,
    Kit

Janie you are really showing a lot of versatlity in your work. Since I just plain don't know enough about studio lighting to critique, let me say I love them all but #1 is a real winner in my book. Very nice job.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Moody!

These are some of the best work I have seen from you Janie.
The first two are the best for sure, but the first one says something a bit more.
It is very moody, the lighting and the pose create an interesting mood that makes me stop and look at the photograph a little longer.
The second one is just fun. How did you make her look like she is flying?

Great creativity, Janie. i like the 1st and 3rd, with the 3rd being my fav. I like the subjects pose and I also like the lighting including the blown out upper left area. Effective. Good work

Very well done. They are very thought provoking and deep. I like the fact that they are not standard typical poses, and it makes you think! Love the colours, shadows and lighting. keep them coming

Wow! The lighting is incredible, most excellent.

I've been thinking about trying to get some sort of lighting, as I'm thinking about trying to do a little more than just the racing, but my wife wasn't too sure about the lighting idea. These shots really impressed her, and she is now on board for lighting! So, a big thank you, as well! ;)

LMAO Okay, I have to say something really funny - I forgot I posted these pictures and had no idea it was photo of the week! lol I think it was a slow week so i figured it dropped off! lol I get an email tonight, months after posting this, from someone loving the photos and i couldn't figure out what they were talking about! So, gee, thanks for the kudos and yes, loving the lighting equipment, works really cool effects with fog machines - they run very hot so use a fan or AC unit! I was dumbfounded when I saw the thread because I didn't think anyone like the shots! lol
