Orchids in the Window

Shot these at a family member's house with a 60mm Macro at about 1'. All shots white-balanced to remove incandescent light cast, not much else done to them. I kind of liked the subtle colors that I saw in the window so I didn't try to punch the colors up like I normally might.

I like the soft colours and the blue cast in the background, it is rather unusual. I also like the obvious texture on the orchids. How did you managed to render textures so strongly?

My favorite of the series is the very first one but I am not too sure how to explain it. It just seems to work naturally for me. I think that the third picture would be stronger if the main orchid was on the left rather than centered. Including the stem in the composition was a good idea though.

Thanks Seb. The texture of the petals is visible to the eye once you get within a couple feet of them. Sort of has a sandy or granular appearance. The reason it comes out in the shot is because of the Micro-Nikkor. Not one of Nikon's newer lenses but definitely one of the sharpest they make.
