Open House
Old abandoned house in Tenn..only one stab at it.

Re: Open House
I think the original version has a bit more punch, and the b/w does not work for me.The house is blending in too much with the surrounding tress in the b/w. The color version allows a stronger distinction of the subject and the green foliage adds to it.

Re: Open House
I agree the first one is the best but I'm going to come back to this several times as I think the b/w could grow on me even if the house does blend in.
I wish you'd had more than one stab at it. I wish that a lot about my own too.
It might make a good hdr but I'm not informed enough to be sure.
I also wish there were just a little more space above the roof peak.
That being said its a fascinating shot to look at and study. Is that a swing on the porch?
What's that big thing sticking out from under the porch? Who lived here? Why'd they abandon it..looks like a dream house to me if it weren't falling down.
These are the thoughts and questions that go through my mind when looking at it so I say good eye and well done!

Re: Open House
I am with Gary in that there isn't enough tonal difference between the house and the trees to make mono work. The colour though (especially the first) is very nice and also very evocative of the place - it couldn't really be anywhere else.
Cheers

Re: Open House
I agree the color edit works best. You might try a channel mixer layer, make the house pop more bringing out the texture of the wood and desaturate the background some. It is hard to make a B&W work when you have that much foliage.

Re: Open House
Thx for your comments!
Frog, I think the underneath thing is a tool container for a truck. And if I remember right it was a swing on the porch.
Gary and Mike, I agree on the B/W, I can't believe I put it up..its a monstroscity.
Greg, I did a lot of different little things to the original. There is a lot I need to learn and will look into channel mixing. I did layer the house for saturation and "de".
Anyway, bad lighting and not enough time to capture this one!

Re: Open House
Love the first one too, but is it really empty? The swing is so white and new looking. If it is WHY??? I would live there in a heartbeat! Im headed to TN in October, my home away from home, I cant wait. Again, I would frame and hang the first one :D
