I like it, but im not sure if what i like about it is what the picture is for, see, i like the slightle long range focus and the alighnment of the horseshoes with it, the boot....eeehhhh ....not so much though

Cindy - I agree with Chris, the idea is good but the (near) negative space extends too far. I would consider chopping off the bottom half of the image and maybe a little of the left side too, see what you get! It might even work as a close in of the boot against the wooden door.

Thank you both for your comments.

Hmmm. . . I thought a crop might be in order. How about this?

So you feel the boot is crowding the top? OK. I didn't actually take that much off the top but I like to visualize any suggestions made so here it is. How do you feel about it now? I find the difference almost negligible but leaning a little to closely to center for my own tastes. Thanks for your input Chris.

I think the cropped one is definitely better than the original. love how those horseshoes lead us to the One Red Boot.

Thank you Liban. It's always nice to get your opinion. I agree that the crop pulls it all together. The boot was doing duty as a doorstop for a western store in Colorado.

    Hey Cindy!

I definitely like the cropped version better...I had pictured it cropped above the first two sets of horseshoes, but I like your crop as well. The one thing I find myself wishing, is that the door behind the boot was more the shade of almost grey/brown that the floor is...I think the color of the boot would stand out that much more. However, I'm sure the owner of the door would have a problem with someone just randomly staining their door for the sake of a pic...hehe.
    I like this though, overall...I think it's a neat find for a shot. :)

i think it has great potential, but i feel there is just too much going on for the boot to be our central focus.

I like the last crop the best. You have had lots of good suggestions from everyone so far, but for me I feel the boot has to be standing alone, without the wooden door behind it, to be truly effective. The concept, subject is great.

i see what you mean gahspidy, but without the door its just a plain, dull background. do you see what i mean?

Interesting thoughts everyone. Thanks for weighing in on this one Gary. It's always nice to get your take on things. :) Here is one more alteration to try to simplify the image I cloned out the leg of the bench which can be seen protruding beyond the door in the background. Better or no real improvement? [I know the nail heads are now uneven this was just a quick and dirty fix for viewing and concept.]

I've thought long and hard over this one and as is it doesn't do it for me.

What I would like to see is greater separation between boot and door and possibly no door with the boot following the horseshoes. Another suggestion is 2 boots stradling the horse shoes as if there is a ghost rider.

Am I making sense or have I done my usual rambling thing?

Like the concept just not the execution.

Thanks for the input Roger. I always appreciate your thoughts. I think I am beginning to feel the same way. This was a found moment not a setup one so my control of the variables is limited but the draw backs are apparent no matter how you slice it. Next time I'm in Aspen, Colorado I'll just move the boot where I want it and put it back when I'm done. :p

well, actually i think it looks a little better without the legs up there, brings out the horse shoes and the boot more, just clean it up a bit :) it still looks great though

Yes, I understand what you mean, but I'll have to disagree. I think having the red boot alone on the boardwalk/deck, standing on its own, red hue against greyish drab and texture makes for a strong visual.
C.L Kunst, I like the removal of the legs and feel it makes an improvement, but I prefer the third crop, the one previous to the last. I think removing the legs, but not tightening the crop, will make a very good picture.

Thanks Gary! That's encouraging! :yesnod: I think that will at least let me reconcile it to the not great but not bad pile.
